Abstract:
STI1 is a co-chaperone for Hsp70/Hsp90 regulating client protein transfer. However, STI1 can also be secreted by cells to trigger signaling via the prion protein and auxiliary receptors. I will present recent work using novel mouse models targeting STI1 to understand how this unique protein regulates cellular resilience in mammals. I will also review how STI1 controls mal-adaptive signaling and modulates protein misfolding in neurodegenerative diseases.
