Abstract:
The uptake of evidence-based interventions in healthcare is challenging. Researchers have shown that, on average, there is a time lag of 17-year between the generation of evidence and the implementation of interventions into routine practice. Without good uptake, the intervention, no matter how effective, has limited impact. The field of implementation science aims to close this gap by enhancing the adoption of evidence-based practices and thereby increasing their public health impact in an equitable way. In this talk, Dr. Minian will present an overview of implementation science and share a few of the applications by highlighting some of the work she has conducted in the field of tobacco control. Dr. Minian will touch on how we can design digital health technologies so that they are theory-based and can be effectively utilized to support and improve healthcare.
